Many factors such as age, diet, genetics, and exercise has an effect on hair growth. We cannot change age and genetics, however, we can control what we put in to our bodies. Hair growth starts from the inside. The hair follicle has a root(inside the scalp) which is connected to blood supply. Blood circulation is what makes your hair grow. Proper nutrition is one of the ways to promote healthy hair growth.
Some examples of foods that help with hair growth are below.
1. Eggs = great source of protein and biotin. Hair is made mostly of protein. Biotin produces the hair protein keratin.
2. Berries = great source of vitamins and antioxidants that helps with keeping the hair strong by producing collagen and protection from free radicals.
3. Spinach = great source of iron, fiolate, Vitamins A & C. Vitamin A helps produce sebum which keeps the scalp the oiled and not dry. Iron helps the red blood cells carry oxygen through the body for your metabolism and help with hair growth and repair.
4. Fatty Fish = great source of Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins. These help promote strong healthy hair.
5. Sweet Potatoes = produces beta-carotene which is converted in to Vitamin A. Vitamin A produces sebum to help keep the scalp moisturized.
6. Avocados = healthy fats which produce Vitamin E. Vitamin E protects the scalp from oxidative stress and damage.
7. Sweet Peppers = great source of Vitamin C which promotes collagen that strengthen the hair strands and protects them from oxidative stress.
8. Oysters = great source of zinc. Supports hair growth and the repair cycle.
9. Beans = great source of protein and zinc which aid in the hair growth and repair cycle.
10. Meat = great source of vitamins, protein, and iron. Red meat has the most easily absorbed iron which help the red blood cells carry oxygen to the cells throughout the body including the hair follicle.
These are just some examples of food. They may have some of the same nutrient components but it makes your diet versatile.
